All employers have a duty of care to insure they are providing a safe working environment for their staff members. The OH&S Act as required by Worksafe Tasmania and Tasmanian OH&S Act 2004A are the current pieces of legislation that must be followed in regards to electrical appliance safety.
Items that are deemed to be fixed or of low risk of being damaged do not need to be tested.
The testing interval depends on the environment in which the appliance is being used. The harsher the environment then the more likely the appliance is to be damaged, hence there is a requirement for a reduced time between testing. For a schedule of testing in many common environments. Refer to the Chart at the bottom for more details.
AS/NZS 3760, which is the relevant standard for safety checking of electrical appliances states that someone employed to do testing and tagging work of electrical appliances must be deemed “A competent person”. This competency may be gained through training, experience or a combination of both.
All of our technicians have obtained a TAFE statement in Safety Checking Electrical Appliances or an equivalent. They also gain experience through on the job training with other experienced technicians.
We charge per appliance that we test. We do not charge extra for three phase equipment nor for power boards. Contact our friendly staff in our office for a quote.
